SLEMCO Scholarships
SLEMCO awards 20 college scholarships worth $2,000 each by random drawing at the annual membership meeting held the first Saturday in June every year. SLEMCO customers or their children are eligible if they have a 2.0 average and will be attending a Louisiana public university pursuing an undergraduate degree. High school seniors or continuing college students are eligible. Applications are accepted from February through April each year and are provided in SLEMCO bills or as a downloadable PDF (227k)*. For information on SLEMCO’s scholarship program contact the SLEMCO Marketing Department at 337-896-5384.

Operation Round-Up
SLEMCO provides grants to needy individuals requiring assistance with a wide variety of needs. Funds for these grants are provided voluntarily by thousands of SLEMCO customers who allow their monthly bills to be rounded up to the next highest dollar. The average yearly contribution per household is about $6. Prescription medications, artificial limbs, eyeglasses, medical care, wheelchairs, ramps or other handicap renovations are examples of the grants awarded each month. No utility bills are paid through this program. For more information about Operation Round-Up contact SLEMCO’s Grants Administrator at 337-896-5384.

Lights On
The Lights On program was established for qualifying SLEMCO customers who have experienced a minor emergency and cannot pay their electric bill. Assistance can be requested once a year from the Lights On fund; the maximum amount of assistance is $100. SLEMCO customers make donations to this fund but funds are not always available. Applications for assistance are taken on Thursdays only at the Msgr. A.O. Sigur Service Center in Lafayette. The phone number is 337-233-7788.
