Meter Reading Chart

Plan your energy budget

Remember, SLEMCO's meter readers are not the only people allowed to read your meter. You can, too, so take advantage of it and plan your electric bills!

Let's say you want a summer electric bill that is no more than $150. Here's a formula you can use to figure out how many kilowatt hours you can use to achieve that goal.

$150 divided by .060 (all electric) = 2,500 kWh 2,500 kWh divided by 30 days = 83 kWh/day

$150 divided by .063 (regular residential) = 2,381 kWh 2,381 divided by 30 days = 79 kWh/day

Once you know how many kilowatt hours you can use each day to achieve your goal, read your meter daily to make sure you use only the amount of electricity you want each day. Then, on really hot days, you can make an informed decision on whether or not to use more air conditioning. You'll also know what to expect on your next bill if you keep track of your electric usage.

By the way, this formula can be used in winter to control heating costs, too.
